2024 British Open payout: How much is this year’s prize money?

The 152nd British Open is on the horizon and here’s a look at what the winner can take home.

The 152nd British Open Championship is fast approaching. The world’s best golfers are gearing up to compete at the Royal Troon Golf Club, a venue that has hosted some of the most memorable moments in golf history.

The British Open, established in 1878, will once again grace the west coast of Scotland at Royal Troon, a venue steeped in history, for the 10th time. The winner, in addition to claiming the prestigious Claret Jug, will also be rewarded with a substantial cash prize.

The R&A has announced that this year’s winner will receive $3.1 million of a $17 million purse. A $500,000 increase from last year’s prize money.

“We remain concerned about the impact substantial increases in men’s professional prize money are having on the perception of the sport and its long-term financial sustainability,” R&A CEO Martin Slumbers said in a statement regarding the prize money increase. “We are determined to act with the interests of the global game in mind as we pursue our goal of ensuring golf continues to thrive in 50 years.”
