.5 million granted to BioForward, pushing innovation in biohealth technology for Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The Joint Committee on Finance passed a motion Tuesday for a $7.5 million grant to support a contract with BioForward and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.

Located in Madison, BioForward is the leader for the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub, which recently was rewarded $49 million in federal grants, solidifying the states leadership in biohealth technology.

“During the budget process we heard a lot about the changing identity of the state of Wisconsin, the demographic changes in the state of Wisconsin, and so forth and rich in agricultural history and agricultural science, but this is an example where we can now establish a new identity, enhance an emerging identity in the area of bio health,” Representative Shannon Zimmerman, a member of the committee, said.

BioForward said the grants will fuel projects to further personalized medicine, drive economic development, and enhance healthcare outcomes cross the state.

Gov. Tony Evers announced last week that Wisconsin was recognized as a U.S. Regional Tech Hub with a second phase of funding, allowing the state’s 15 public and private partners to expand on its medicine and biohealth sector.
