Ever so gradually, the field at the 2024 College World Series bracket is dwindling — and a champion is getting that much closer to being crowned.
With six teams remaining in what began as an eight-team field, college baseball’s signature event continues Tuesday with a pair of games at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska that will winnow the number of programs still alive for an NCAA title that much more.

In the first game of Tuesday’s schedule, No. 4 North Carolina, fresh off a 6-1 loss Sunday night to No. 1 Tennessee, will look to remain in Omaha for at least another day as it takes on No. 8 Florida State. This will be the first meeting this season between the Tar Heels and Seminoles, who, despite both being members of the ACC, did not play during the regular season.
With each team already sporting a loss, both of which came against Tennessee, the loser of the matchup will be knocked out of the double-elimination CWS. The winner of the contest will move on to play Tennessee, which it would have to beat twice in a row in order to advance to the CWS championship series.

In the second game, Florida, which avoided elimination Monday with a 5-4 win against NC State, will face Kentucky, which lost 5-1 to Texas A&M Monday night. The Gators went 1-2 against Kentucky in Gainesville during the regular season, as both teams competed in the SEC. The loser of Tuesday night’s game will be eliminated from the CWS,
