WEATHER SUMMARY
Intense heat and humidity will be in place over the next several days from a strong area of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Temperatures will enter the 90s today, peaking in the lower to middle 90s, and dewpoints will climb near 70. This will lead to heat index values near 100 through the afternoon and early evening. Heat aside, we’ll see a mixture of sun and clouds with just a stray storm in a couple of spots late in the day. Those who work outside or plan to spend time outside should stay hydrated, take frequent breaks and wear light colored clothing!
Our nights will be warm and muggy the remainder of the week and mainly in the lower 70s. The weather tomorrow will be very similar to today and possibly a couple of degrees warmer. We’ll again be in the middle 90s for the Capital Region with oppressively high dewpoints. Heat indices will likely be just above 100 later in the day. The chance for a stray storm is there by evening, but most will end up dry. Thursday too will be pretty much identical, but highs may end up pushing the middle to upper 90s. Should we end up that warm, heat indices will range from 100-105.
Finally by Friday shower and thunderstorm chances will go up, which will aid in temperatures sliding back a little bit. The coverage of showers and storms will dictate exactly how warm we go in the afternoons. Friday it appears highs could range from the upper 80s to lower 90s with still oppressive humidity. By the weekend, we should end up in the 80s to perhaps near 90 region-wide. Both Saturday and Sunday will feature afternoon/evening showers and storms, especially Sunday. The humidity will still be present, but may come down slightly from the oppressive levels of this week.
More notable relief will be seen next week.
