Amazon’s titular shopping event is in the single digit countdown: Prime Day 2024. This July marks the retailer’s 10th Prime Day, and we’re already seeing some items at their lowest price ever, according to Amazon price tracker CamelCamelCamel. So, get your wallets ready because we’re sharing everything you need to know for summer’s biggest shopping event.

When is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

According to a recent press release, Amazon’s 2024 Prime Day event starts on Tuesday, July 16 at 12:01 AM PDT on and runs for 48 hours through Wednesday, July 17.

Prime Day originally started as a summer savings event to celebrate Amazon’s birthday, which launched in July 2015. The only year Prime Day was not held in the summer was October 2020, which was due to the pandemic. In addition to summer Prime Day, the retailer has started offering an additional two-day sale in the fall. However, there are no details yet of a Prime-exclusive fall event.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day, which is exclusive to Amazon Prime members, is a global savings event that falls over a 48-hour period. You must be an Amazon Prime member to enjoy the deals but if you’re not, there’s still time to sign up for a 30-day free trial.

Amazon Prime Day 2024 will be offered in multiple countries including the U.S., Austria, Japan, China, Belgium, Egypt, France, Germany, India, the United Kingdom and Singapore — to name a few!

During the big sale event, shoppers can get a chance to score discounts across categories including beauty, tech, home, fashion and more. In previous years, we saw impressive deals on bestselling products, from Apple AirPod Pros to Alexa devices to bestselling beauty such as the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. How much is Amazon Prime?

A monthly Prime membership costs $14.99 a month, but you can also purchase an annual membership for $139, which ultimately saves you a few dollars a month.

Additionally, college students can get a Prime Student membership for only $7.49 per month or $69 per year. Those with qualified government assistance can also receive a Prime membership for just $6.99 after the 30-day free trial.

How to find the best Prime Day deals

Here’s how you can save big during Amazon Prime Day and get started for the event, according to the retailer:

You will need to sign up for an Amazon Prime account.
Download the Amazon Prime app and allow notifications.
Set up for alerts via the Amazon Prime app to receive personalized push notifications about updates on your recently viewed items and items saved to your cart throughout the event.
Ask Alexa: The device will notify you of deals on anything in your cart, wish list or “saved for later” section up to 24 hours before they’re available. You can ask, “Alexa, what are my notifications?” to learn more about the sales you’re interested in and even have Alexa buy something for you once the deal goes live. You can also tell your device, “Alexa, remind me when Prime Day starts,” so you’re ready to shop the moment the sale starts.

Amazon Prime Day is a good time to grab Amazon devices and certain electronics, says DealNews.com Consumer Analyst Julie Ramhold. She shares they’ll often see Black Friday-level discounts on Alexa and Amazon devices, so it’s worth checking around during the sale event, rather than waiting for Black Friday.

“Amazon will offer deep discounts as well as extra perks like discounted or free memberships to its services to celebrate,” says Ramhold.

Another thing Ramhold says to keep an eye on is electronics such as TVs (such as Fire TVs), smartwatches, streaming devices and tablets. But she does note that you’ll want to look at other retailers too, since they might offer similar deals.

“While Amazon devices will have the best discounts at Amazon, other stores will have similar offers on electronics,” says Ramhold. “It won’t be the same volume of offers we see around Black Friday, but there will still be a good handful of discounts to check out for a true bargain.”

“Probably not,” says Ramhold. While she reiterates that there will definitely be good deals on certain items, chances are you will see those prices again on Black Friday. “There are a ton of deals for Prime Day, but most of them aren’t really going to be notable; they may be fine, but they’re not going to be anything to sweat if you miss out on them,” she says.

With that being said, it may be a good time to get a head start on any seasonal shopping before the holiday shopping rush.
