The College World Series rolls on Sunday, and two teams face elimination for the first time.
An All-ACC battle kicks off Sunday’s slate of games as No. 8 Florida State and No. 12 Virginia will square off against each other in the first elimination game of the double-elimination first-round format. Then No. 1 Tennessee and No. 4 North Carolina go head-to-head in an SEC-ACC battle in the “winner’s bracket.”
The Seminoles are linked with one of the biggest storylines from the College World Series thus far this season, and it is the reason why Link Jarrett’s squad is playing in the first game Sunday (loser’s bracket) and not the second (winner’s bracket).

In Friday’s opening-round game vs. No. 1 Tennessee, Florida State was one pitch away from pulling off the upset as pitcher Brennen Oxford looked to have gotten Blake Burke to go around on a swing, which would have been strike three. However, the third base umpire said Burke didn’t go around on the swing on the appeal, which led to a controversial no-swing and loss for the Seminoles as Burke would tie the game with a single on the next pitch before Dylan Dreiling walked it off for the Vols two batters later.
Vols star infielder Christian Moore made history himself in Tennessee’s 12-11 win over Florida State Friday, as the projected first-round draft pick in next month’s MLB draft became the second player in CWS history to hit for the cycle. The Tar Heels are playing in Sunday’s “winner’s bracket” game vs. the Vols thanks to star outfielder Vance Honeycutt, who delivered some Chapel Thrill magic in Omaha Friday vs. Virginia with his second walk-off of the postseason.
