Daesang Corporation announced today that it participated in the large-scale international food technology exhibition ‘IFT Food Expo 2024’, held in Chicago, USA from July 14 to 17.

The ‘IFT Expo’, hosted annually by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), is a major exhibition in the food technology sector. It attracts participation from over 1,200 companies and visitors from over 90 countries, including more than 23,000 buyers.

Daesang Corporation prominently showcased its newly launched alternative sweetener brand ‘Sweevero’ and its allulose product. Allulose is a rare sugar naturally found in small quantities in foods like figs and raisins and has been safely consumed by humans for centuries. It offers a sweetness similar to sugar but with virtually no calories, making it popular as an ingredient in various foods.

Responding to this demand, Daesang Corporation opened the largest allulose production facility in Korea at its Gunsan starch and syrup plant in May last year, leading the domestic alternative sweetener market. The company plans to leverage the Sweevero brand to accelerate its presence in the global alternative sweetener market.

Daesang also presented ‘NAMINO’, a natural seasoning ingredient developed using fermentation technology. NAMINO is used in the production of plant-based meats, broths, and other processed foods. It enhances umami flavor while reducing sodium intake by up to 30%.

Additionally, Daesang introduced ‘GoldRella’ and ‘White Chlorella’, innovative microbial powders developed through proprietary cultivation techniques. These powders are rich in protein, fiber, nine essential amino acids, and vitamin B12, making them excellent for nutritional balance. They are applied in plant-based foods like alternative cheeses, eggs, meats, protein drinks, and nutrition bars to enhance flavor and texture.

Significantly, both NAMINO UH and White Chlorella have received the SA-GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) certification from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). NAMINO also holds Kosher, Halal, ISO 9001, FSSC 22000, and USDA certifications.

With increasing consumer awareness of safety and health, and the growing trends of Clean Label and Vegan foods, Daesang expects its natural seasoning ingredients to establish a strong position in the global market.

Furthermore, Daesang introduced ‘EMULAID’, a vegan ingredient. EMULAID, based on waxy corn starch, offers emulsifying properties with low viscosity and good solubility in cold water, making it highly stable under challenging conditions. It is widely used as a vegan emulsifier in coffee creamers, mayonnaise, cream products, and other food and beverage items.

Yonggi Lee, Daesang’s Marketing Director for Ingredients, said, “It was exciting to showcase Daesang’s diverse specialty ingredients such as Allulose and NAMINO, developed over 68 years of accumulated expertise, at an event attended by global food ingredient experts. As global demand for specialty ingredients continues to grow, we will pursue continuous research and development to lead the global ingredient market.”
