Of course it’s way too soon to be talking about the New York Rangers’ odds to win the Stanley Cup next season. It’s only been hours since the Florida Panthers hoisted the Stanley Cup after defeating the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the Cup Final on Monday.

The longest season in NHL history is finally over. And training camp is more than two months away.

But that means the NHL offseason is only now officially underway. Though the Rangers have done some business already, waiving veteran forward Barclay Goodrow and re-signing Kaapo Kakko to a one-year, $2.4 million contract, the heavy lifting remains.

We don’t know the full scope of what the Blueshirts roster will look like, not mention what moves the other 31 NHL teams will make this offseason. Even if some of their rivals have made bigger moves, like the New Jersey Devils acquiring goalie Jacob Markstrom or the Boston Bruins dealing away goalie Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators.

So, discussing odds to win the Stanley Cup next season seems, well, ridiculous.

But we’re going to do it anyway. Because it’s fun and it gets people fired up, passionate, angry.

FanDuel gives the Panthers the best odds to win the Stanley Cup again next season at +900. That’s a tall order for any team to repeat as champions in the NHL, though the Tampa Bay Lightning did do it in 2020 and 2021. But the Panthers also face an uncertain offseason with 11 unrestricted free agents from their championship roster, including stalwarts like Sam Reinhart and Brandon Montour.

The Rangers are tied for the seventh-best odds to win the Cup at +1300 with their rival, the Devils. Clearly the defending Presidents’ Trophy winners, who were two wins shy of reaching the Cup Final this season, are not the darlings of the betting world. And it’d appear that oddsmakers expect a big bounce-back from the Devils, who missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season but did sure up their goaltending already.

Ahead of the Rangers and Devils are the Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche (each +950), Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers (each +1000) and Vegas Golden Knights (+1100). Right behind the Rangers are the Toronto Maple Leafs (+1400).

If you’re looking to take a flyer on the team with the worst odds to win the Stanley Cup in 2025, you actually have four choices. The Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks are all a whopping (though not surprising) +30000.
