Fahmi: TikTok Keeps A Watchful Eye After Esha Cyberbullying Tragedy – BusinessToday

TikTok has made improvements to the number of moderators who monitor live sessions, including on messages sent in vernacular languages like Tamil.

The move was made following the cyberbullying incident in which influencer Rajeswary Appahu, also known as Esha, took her own life.

In the dewan Rakyat today, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that the social media platform is affected by the incident and views cyberbullying very seriously.

“It is understood that the TikTok live video involving the late Rajeswary took place during the early hours of the morning, around 3am to 4am. Therefore, the monitoring methods for TikTok live videos must be revised.

“During my discussion with TikTok, they expressed concern over the incident and have taken immediate action.

“They have promptly increased the number of moderators to monitor content and live sessions in vernacular languages, including Tamil,” he said.

Fahmi said this in reply to a question raised by R. Yuneswaran (Segamat), who asked how extensively the ministry monitors content on social media in various languages.
