Fashion revue includes county youths

The stage was set on a beautiful recent Saturday afternoon in Wyoming for the annual Western District 4-H fashion revue!

Participation in the 4-H clothing and textiles project builds self-esteem, develops a sense of accomplishment, and allows youth to express their individuality by tapping into their personal creativity.

Nineteen 4-H members from five of the Western New York Counties, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Orleans and Wyoming, showed off their sewing projects at this annual event. Youth were selected at their county level based on the quality of their work and experience. Items such as dresses, aprons, pajamas pants, vests and coats were showcased, and more! The 4-H members had a chance to model on stage while being evaluated on fit, poise, posture, and style of the item they had sewn.

This year’s event was hosted by the Wyoming County 4-H program. The revue was held at the Church on the Green, a public event space. Over 50 families gathered for the day’s event. Lunch was provided, and a presentation was given by local historian Kay Swyers on some local history of sewing, and how patterns were utilized in the late 1800s. The group also had the opportunity to visit and tour the Middlebury Academy.

Congratulations to all clothing revue participants! For more information about the 4-H clothing program or other programs for youth, contact your local Cornell Cooperative Extension office.
