One win separates the Florida State Seminoles from reaching the Men’s College World Series.

But first, the Seminoles must defeat the UConn Huskies in Game 2 of the NCAA Tournament’s Tallahassee Super Regional. FSU and UConn met Friday, where the Seminoles took a historic 24-4 victory in Game 1 of the best-of-three series.

A win for FSU will punch its ticket to Omaha for the first time since 2019. UConn wants to stay alive in the Super Regional by forcing a Game 3 for a chance to reach the Men’s College World Series for the first time since 1979.

Florida’s heat is for real. Just ask UConn baseball coach Jim Penders, who said his top two catchers had to leave Friday’s Super Regional opener against FSU due to “heat exhaustion.”

Friday’s game started at high noon and was played under a blazing sun and temperatures that reached in the mid-90s. Much of the same is expected for Saturday’s Game 2 at 11 a.m., according to Weather.com

FSU’s home fans – specifically the famed “Animals of Section B” – know how to prepare for Saturday’s heat. In a social media post Saturday morning a member of the “Animals” reminded each other among the necessities needed for Game 2 were “baby powder and deodorant.” – Jim Henry
