Northstars Sweep Regular Season Finale

The Havre Northstars finished the 2024 regular season on a high note, avenging two previous losses to the Tri-County Cardinals by beating them, (1-0) and (7-3) on Sunday afternoon.

Game one was a pitcher’s dual, which Northstars starter Tanner Delarosa pitched. He went seven strong innings, striking out seven Cardinals, and allowing just four hits in the process. He was also the only offense of the contest as in the fifth inning, he hit a sacrifice fly which scored Tyson Brandon. In the seventh inning, Tri-County made a threat, reaching base in three of its four attempts to begin the inning. However, the Cardinals could not push across any runs as Delarosa recorded a strikeout for the second out and the Northstars played clean defense to end the game on a fielder’s choice.

Game two saw more offense, but the Northstars still shined brighter. Ezra Pyle started the scoring with an RBI double to bring home Terek Shipp in the first inning. Tri-County jockeyed for the lead in the next half inning, scoring twice.  Havre immediately went back in front on a wild pitch and fielder’s choice in the bottom of the second. Northstars coach Patch Wirtzberger decided to bring in Quinn Elliot to pitch in the third inning and that move proved to be effective. Elliot threw three innings and would strike out six batters without walking anybody. Havre padded its lead in the fourth inning, scoring three times on singles by Pyle, Jevin Jenkins, and Brandon.

Next up for the Northstars (26-21) is the North A District Tournament. The first taste of postseason play will be held in Lethbridge this year and runs from Thursday through Sunday. Stay tuned to New Media Broadcasters for updates on where the Northstars stack up in the field.
