One year ago today: ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ special pre-screening for Osage Nation

One year ago today, the Osage Nation hosted a pre-release screening of the Martin Scorsese film “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

The shot-in-Oklahoma film wouldn’t arrive in theaters until that October, but Martin Scorsese and members of the cast — including stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone and Jessie Plemons — visited Tulsa for the event.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” was based on David Grann’s book about the serial murder of the oil-wealthy Osage in 1920s Oklahoma. Grann also attended the screening and reception following.

The film was nominated for 10 Oscars, and while the movie did not win any, many in the Osage Nation recognized the biggest win is having their story heard by a wider audience.
