Opera House to present ‘Reverse the Curse’

Logan Marshall-Green stars in “Reverse the Curse.”

FREDONIA – The Cinema Series at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center continues with the warm-hearted “Reverse the Curse.” It will be screened on Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Ted (Logan Marshall-Green), a failed writer-turned-Yankees Stadium peanut slinger, moves back home after learning of the failing health of his Red Sox-obsessed father, Marty (David Duchovny), whose health declines abruptly whenever his beloved Sox lose a game. To keep his dad’s spirits up, Ted takes matters into his own hands and manufactures a winning streak with the help of a crew of Marty’s neighborhood pals. An ode to the bond between father and son, this warm and witty film demonstrates how life truly belongs to the losers, and that the longshots are the ones worth betting on.

With a 95% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score, the film is called “every bit the home run” by critics. The Cinematic Reel calls it “one of the year’s most enjoyable entries.” IndieWire says the film “finds fresh life in its nuanced central relationship, charming period details, and a stirring performance from Duchovny – while eliciting well-earned sobs from anyone who can’t help but feel romantic about baseball.” The Chicago Sun-Times says “Duchovny has never been better. Even if you’re a Yankees fan, you’ll appreciate the heart and passion of ‘Reverse the Curse’.” Unrated, “Reverse the Curse” runs one hour, 45 minutes.

Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member.

The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Savings Bank. In addition, Opera House programming is made possible by the United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County.
