Singing pirates, spicy wings and a movie in the pool top our list of fun things to do in Brevard for Aug. 16 through 22, 2024.

1. ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ in Melbourne

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra teams up with Central Florida Vocal Arts to present a fully staged production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance” at the Scott Center, 5625 Holy Trinity Drive, Melbourne, on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. The comic operetta is a hilarious farce following young Frederic, an orphan who has been apprenticed to a raucous band of pirates. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door or free for ages 18 and younger. 2. Space Coast Wing Battle in Wickham Park

The Space Coast Wing Battle returns to Wickham Park, 2500 Parkway Drive, Melbourne, on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 6 to 10 p.m. The event, for ages 21 and older, will include unlimited wing samplings and unlimited domestic beer and hard seltzers, live music, a game area, dessert vendors and more. 3. ‘Timeless Classics with the Luminoso Quartet’ concert in Suntree

Brevard Symphony Orchestra’s series of summer evening concerts at Suntree United Methodist Church, 7400 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, concludes at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, with “Timeless Classics with the Luminoso Quartet” The program will include timeless classics from multiple genres, including Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” along with favorites by Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel and the Indigo Girls. 4. Eric Johanson at Heidi’s Jazz Club

Singer and guitarist Eric Johanson will play at Heidi’s Jazz Club, 7 N. Orlando Ave., Cocoa Beach, on Sunday, Aug. 18. Johanson uses blues as a springboard for an edgier, broader sound, showcased in his latest album “The Deep & The Dirty.” Admission starts at $15. Call 321-783-4559 or visit heidisjazzclub.com.

5. Play reading: ‘Creating Claire’ at Melbourne Civic Theatre

Melbourne Civic Theatre continues its popular play reading series with “Creating Claire” by Joe DiPietro on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. Employed as a docent at a natural history museum, nice, middle-aged Claire comes under fire when her tour-guide patter deviates from the strict scientific beliefs of her formidable supervisor and heads down a path that espouses intelligent design. The play will be read by Brevard actors Christie Tipton-Poirier, Brooke Jara, Daniel Wilkerson and Jeri Lee. Tickets are $15. Visit mymct.org.

6. Paws and Plants in Cocoa Village

Tales at the Barkery hosts the event at Dirty Oar Beer Company, 329 W. King Street, Cocoa Village, on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. Participants will be guided through the session by artist Jenn Gallo. The cost is $20 to create a small dish bowl or $25 for a medium dish bowl and includes 3 to 5 plants, soil, stones, your choice of a one-of-a-kind art piece by Jenn Gallo and light refreshments. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit Lowrider Dachshund Rescue of Florida. All pets must be on a leash, or in appropriate carriers, and have current vaccinations and county tags for the safety of our animals and friends. Reservations are required. Call 321-305-4584.

7. Flick-N-Float movie: ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’

Watch the movie ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ (PG) from the pool at McLarty Park Aquatic Center, 790 Barton Blvd., Rockledge, on Friday, Aug. 16. Swimming begins at 7 p.m., and the movie starts at 8:30 p.m. The cost to swim is $4, and the movie is free to watch whether you’re in the pool or on the lawn. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. 8. Catch some live theater

  • ‘The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife’: The play “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife” is at Melbourne Civic Theatre, 817 E. Strawbridge Ave., Melbourne, through Sept. 8. Plunged into a mid-life crisis of Medea-like proportions, middle-aged Marjorie Taub is shaken out of her lethargy by the reappearance of a fascinating and somewhat mysterious childhood friend.   • ‘Tootsie’: The show “Tootsie” is at Titusville Playhouse, 301 Julia Street, through Aug. 18. Based on the hit comedy film, desperate and out-of-work actor Michael Dorsey makes a last-ditch effort at making his dreams come true by disguising himself as actress Dorothy Michaels. 9. Classic Albums Live: AC/DC ‘Highway to Hell’

Classic Albums Live brings AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” to the King Center, 3865 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. Classic Albums Live recreates albums live on stage, note for note, cut for cut, using the world’s best musicians. Tickets start at $29. 10. Tour the historic home at Green Gables

Green Gables, 1501 S. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne, will host an open house every Saturday in August, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The historic home is a living history museum showcasing life in the early years of Melbourne. Visitors will learn about the history of the Wells family, who played a key role in the development of the community. The cost is $10, or free for children 12 and younger. Visit greengables.org.
