Princess Kate seen in public today for the first time since March

Today, for the first time since March, the Princess of Wales has been seen in public.

Kate Middleton, diagnosed with cancer three months ago, attended the Trooping the Colour ceremony in London. She is still undergoing treatment for cancer.

Today’s ceremony, an annual summer event dating back to the 17th century, celebrates the official — as opposed to actual — birthday of the sovereign (the real birthday of King Charles III is Nov. 14). The celebration day is arbitrary. A concession to British weather.

Cavalry regiments of the British Army’s Household Division muster and parade in this yearly pageant, since 1959 almost always on a Saturday in June. Some 1,400 officers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians are all part of the pomp, which climaxes with a flyover by the Royal Air Force.

“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet,” the Princess said in a message Friday.

King Charles, also diagnosed with cancer, attended as well.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is a queen-in-waiting: married to Prince William, heir apparent to the British throne. Her cancer diagnosis has had the U.K., and much of the world, talking, speculating, and conspiracy theorizing. Whispers about sinister plots and “body doubles” have spread like a gasoline fire through social media.

Kate — the real one, presumably — says she’s on the mend.

“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” she said in Friday’s message. “On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”
