SPRINGFIELD & CENTRAL ILLINOIS FORECAST

A QUIET STRETCH OF WEATHER THROUGH MIDWEEK

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny and mild with a slight chance of a stray shower or storm. High: 79 Low: 54

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny and comfortable. High: 74 Low: 54

THURSDAY: Lots of sunshine and still mild. High: 76 Low: 55

FRIDAY: Warming up a bit with partly cloudy skies. High: 79 Low: 58

SATURDAY: A mix of sun and clouds with some scattered showers and storms possible. High: 80 Low: 62

Happy Tuesday! Not too many complaints about the weather this week. A weak disturbance rotating across the Great Lakes region may trigger a stray shower or spotty storm this afternoon or tonight, otherwise expect partly cloudy skies and nice temperatures with highs in the upper 70s while overnight lows will be pleasantly cool dropping to around 54.

By the middle of the week, high pressure building across the Upper Midwest and Missouri Valley will provide dry skies and abundant sunshine. On Wednesday, you’ll need to put on your sunscreen and your sunglasses with mostly sunny skies and comfortable temperatures with highs around 74, and Thursday will also be another gorgeous day with lots of sunshine with highs in the mid 70s. Friday brings a mix of sun and clouds along with slightly warmer temperatures with highs in the upper 70s.

But over the weekend, the weather turns unsettled again. Look for partly cloudy skies with a better chance of scattered showers and storms on Saturday and Sunday as another weather maker lifts out from the Midwest. Temperatures will also be noticeably warmer and getting more humid with afternoon highs topping out in the low to mid 80s.

CHAMPAIGN & EAST-CENTRAL ILLINOIS FORECAST

VERY COMFORTABLE CONDITIONS TO WRAP UP MAY, WARM AND HUMID TO START JUNE

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clear, cool and comfy. Low: 53

WEDNESDAY: Comfy and mild. High: 73 Low: 51

THURSDAY: A repeat of yesterday with mostly sunny skies. High: 75 Low: 53

FRIDAY: Warming up a bit with partly cloudy skies. High: 78 Low: 60

SATURDAY: Showers and storms return to the forecast. High: 79 Low: 62

A few isolated showers and storms pushed through again for Tuesday afternoon. These are associated with a shortwave to our north that will continue to keep cooler air flowing into the region. Most of the shower/storm activity should fizzle once we get past sunset this evening. Overnight conditions will remain dry with clear skies, a calm breeze and cooler temperatures.

Wednesday will be the coolest day in the forecast with many of us seeing a 5-7 degree drop from Tuesday afternoon. We’re still soaking up plenty of sunshine with drier air in place across the Midwest. We’ll see a slow warming trend through the remainder of the work week forecast. We’ll remain very comfortable to wrap up May, but the warmer air and humidity will return once we head into June.

Showers and thunderstorms will come back to the Midwest starting this weekend. High temperatures will hover around 80 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday is looking calm but more showers and storms will continue into our first week of June. Our warmer air coupled with the increased humidity will have the low-mid 80s feeling like we’re around 90 degrees.
