TLU Women’s Soccer Announces 2024 Schedule

SEGUIN, Texas — TLU women’s soccer head coach Kerwin Johnson released the full 2024 schedule today. Along with the SCAC schedule, the Bulldogs will also compete in eight non-conference games.

The Bulldogs’ 10-game 2024 SCAC schedule will feature five home dates with Austin College (Oct. 6), St. Thomas (Oct. 18), Centenary (Oct. 27), McMurry (Nov. 1) and Concordia (Nov. 3) and five road matches against Dallas (Oct. 4), Trinity (Oct. 11), Schreiner (Oct. 13), Southwestern (Oct. 15), and Ozarks (Oct. 25).

Prior to beginning non-conference play, the Bulldogs will open the 2024 season by hosting scrimmages against Classic Elite-ECRL on Aug. 23 and Our Lady of the Lake on Aug. 26.

TLU’s non-conference schedule consists of six home matches, two road matches, and one neutral site contest. The Bulldogs will open the 2024 season by hosting Hardin-Simmons (Aug. 30) and Trinity (Sept. 6) before hitting the road for a neutral site contest against Sul Ross State (Sept. 8) and road contests against East Texas Baptist (Sept. 13) and UT-Dallas (Sept. 15). Texas Lutheran returns home for a four game homestand to close out non-conference play with home matches against: Division-II foe Texas A&M International (Sept. 20), Mary Hardin-Baylor (Sept. 23), Southwestern (Sept. 27), and Schreiner (Sept. 29). In total, TLU will face three 2023 NCAA Tournament qualifiers in non-conference play – all at Gustafson Field.

Texas Lutheran returns eight starters, including All-Region honorees Alyssa Simien, the back-to-back SCAC Offensive Player of the Year, and Klarissa Martinez and 2023 SCAC Newcomer of the Year Caitlin Roach. Also returning are All-SCAC honorees Ashlyn Suarez, Bailey Havens, Callie Brame, Kelly Wolfe, and Alysa Marquez. Among the experienced newcomers for head coach Kerwin Johnson are juniors Ella Alvarado (Howard Payne) and Abby Castelli (Southwestern) and senior UTSA transfer Ariana Gomez.

Non-Conference Opponents

Hardin-Simmons – Aug. 30

TLU and Hardin-Simmons will meet for the 25th time when the Bulldogs welcome the Cowgirls to Seguin on Friday, Aug. 30 at Gustafson Field.

The Cowgirls finished their 2023 season with an overall record 17-2-3, going 6-1-1 in American Southwest Conference (ASC) play. The two schools met for the first time since the Bulldogs left the ASC in 2013 last season with the Cowgirls shutting out the Bulldogs 2-0 to increase their all-time record against TLU to 23-0-1. They made a run to the NCAA Tournament sweet sixteen, falling to Cal Lutheran in the third round.

Trinity – Sept. 6

Texas Lutheran and Trinity will face off in non-conference action on Friday, Sept. 6 in Seguin ahead of their SCAC conference match on Oct. 11 in San Antonio.

The Tigers swept the Bulldogs last season ahead of their NCAA Tournament run that saw them fall to Hardin-Simmons in the opening round. The Tigers went 12-5-2 in 2023, including 7-0 in SCAC play. Texas Lutheran trails the all-time series 27-0.

Sul Ross State – Sept. 8

The Bulldogs will travel to Eagle Pass, Texas on Sunday, Sept. 8 to take on the Lobos in their lone neutral site match on the 2024 schedule. The two teams will compete for just the second time as NCAA institutions with the last matchup coming in 2015 when the Bulldogs beat the Lobos, 6-1.

The Lobos posted a 3-12-1 in 2023 and will be making the jump to Division-II in 2024.

@East Texas Baptist – Sept. 13

TLU travels to East Texas Baptist on Friday, Sept. 13 in the 17th contest between the two schools. The series is tied at 7-7-2 with the teams finishing at a 1-1 draw in 2023 in Seguin. As members of the American Southwest Conference (ASC), the Tigers went 5-5-6, going 2-4-2 in conference play.

@UT-Dallas – Sept. 15

TLU travels to Richardson to face UT-Dallas for the first time since 2012 on Sunday Sept. 15. The overall series against the Comets stands at 1-13-1 over the Bulldogs tenure in the ASC.

The Comets finished their 2023 season with an overall 9-2-7 record, going 2-1-5 in-conference.

Texas A&M International – Sept. 20

TLU and NCAA Division-II member Texas A&M International will meet for the first time as the Dustdevils travel to Seguin for the first time ever matchup. The match will be an exhibition for TLU and will not count against their overall record.

The Dustdevils finished 8-5-5 overall in 2023, going 6-3-3 in the Lone Star Conference (LSC).

Mary Hardin-Baylor – Sept. 23

TLU hosts Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday, Sept. 23 at Gustafson Field in the 28th contest between the two schools. The Bulldogs lead the overall series 13-12-2.

The Bulldogs will look to end their losing streak against the Crusaders, dropping their last three contests. The Crusaders made their second straight NCAA Tournament run last season, following an overall season record of 16-1-2, and going 7-0-1 in conference play. The Crusaders would fall to Emory in the opening round.

Southwestern – Sept. 27

Texas Lutheran and Southwestern will face off in non-conference action on Friday, Sept. 27 in Seguin ahead of their SCAC conference match on Oct. 15 in Georgetown.

The Bulldogs won two out of three matchups with the Pirates last season, sweeping the regular season before falling in the SCAC Tournament. The Pirates went 8-9-2 in 2023, including 4-2-1 in SCAC play. Texas Lutheran trails the all-time series 10-18-4.

Schreiner – Sept. 29

Texas Lutheran and Schreiner will face off in non-conference action on Sunday, Sept. 29 in Seguin ahead of their SCAC conference match on Oct. 13 in Kerrville.

The Bulldogs went 1-0-1 against the Mountaineers last season. The Mountaineers went 2-11-1 in 2023, including 1-5-1 in SCAC play.
