Today’s World Refugee Day observance in Canandaigua is canceled

CANANDAIGUA — Because of the hot temperatures and threat of severe weather, organizers of the World Refugee Day observance at the Central on Main in downtown Canandaigua has been canceled.

The Called to Care, Canandaigua’s board of directors is offering options for those who may still want to contribute and support the organization’s efforts of resettling refugee families. The theme of this year’s observance is “Hope Away From Home — A World Where Refugees and Other Displaced Persons Are Always Included.”

Freewill offerings can be mailed to: Called to Care, Canandaigua, PO Box 885, Canandaigua, NY 14424, or an online donation is possible at calledtocarecanandaigua.org.

A message of welcome can be sent to a refugee family and may be mailed to the same address.

The organization also encourages folks to visit Simply Crepes, the Kix-Stand or Flavors Restaurant, which were to provide food for the event.
