By Travis Kelce is everywhere these days, but he has his sights set on the big show. In a new episode of his New Heights podcast, Kelce revealed his desire to go into NFL broadcasting when he retires from his playing career.
Perhaps Kelce sees the success two-time Emmy winner Greg Olsen, a fellow tight end, has had in the booth and fancies himself the next tight end turned announcer to hit it big.
“I want to be the talking head that calls the games,” Kelce told his brother Jason on the latest episode of their podcast.
It’s pretty lucrative to be an NFL broadcaster these days, so it’s no surprise Kansas City Chiefs tight end wants in. But he has previously described an interest in acting, with a big profile last season in the Washington Post detailing Kelce’s management team’s efforts to turn him into this generation’s version of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
On the podcast, Jason is more often the one in the weeds on football, and he just signed a deal to join ESPN’s NFL studio coverage this fall. Travis certainly has the energy and charisma to hold an audience’s interest, but there’s a big difference between a podcast or an interview and a top game analyst job.
Jumping from acting and game show hosting into color commentary on Fox, CBS, NBC or ESPN would be a big leap for the three-time Super Bowl champion.
Still, Kelce’s interests appear to be quite broad. Anything that can keep him front and center in the spotlight and involved in football is probably going to get a yes from football’s athlete of the moment.
