Not even the best golfer in the world can be perfect all of the time.

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world and 2024 Olympic gold medalist, learned that lesson the hard way at the final round of the Tour Championship on Sunday. The 28-year-old held a four-stroke lead as he started the eighth hole, but an errant tee shot landed in the greenside bunker to start the hole. Things only got worse from there.

Scheffler’s second shot was a shank off of the end of his club, sending the ball almost directly to his right and off of the green. He managed to recover from the poor shot to save bogey on the hole, but Collin Morikawa – looming behind Scheffler in second place – birdied the eighth to shrink the lead to two strokes.
