Watercolor display planned in Silver Creek


The art of Rob Erdle will be on display at Anderson-Lee Library in Silver Creek.

SILVER CREEK — Anderson-Lee Library, in collaboration with the family of Rob Erdle, is displaying a collection of Erdle’s watercolors. The public is invited to a reception on Monday, July 22 at 7 p.m. at the library, located at 43 Main St.

Robert Erdle was born in California in 1949 and passed away in 2006. Erdle lived in Silver Creek from 1965-67 and again from 1972-73. His siblings are Martha Waterman from Forestville and Richard Erdle from Silver Creek.

Erdle had a distinguished career as an art professor for 30 years at the University of North Texas in Denton. Additionally, Erdle taught art in Switzerland and China, and was a former director of the Chautauqua Institution Art Gallery, as well as the director of the Summer School of Art.

Throughout his career, Erdle received many awards and accolades, including the Honorary Award for Life Service by the Chautauqua Art Association at Chautauqua Institution. He exhibited his watercolors in over 200 shows of which 47 were one-man exhibitions. Currently, many of Erdle’s watercolors can be found at galleries throughout the United States and China.

In January of 2006 Erdle was honored at a gala by the Visual Arts Society of Texas, at which it was announced that the Rob Erdle Award Fund, an endowment to provide financial support to future watercolor students, had been established by the School of Visual Arts at UNT.
