Middle Tennessee State football coach Derek Mason discusses the Blue Raiders’ upcoming season opener at home vs. Tennessee Tech.
Middle Tennessee State football and Tennessee Tech will renew an old rivalry when the two teams open the season Saturday (6 p.m., ESPN+) at Floyd Stadium.
It will be the first game of the Derek Mason era for the Blue Raiders.
MTSU is coming off a 4-8 season in 2023 and Tennessee Tech went 4-7. Both teams changed coaching staffs, with Mason and Tennessee Tech’s Bobby Wilder being hired in December.

It’s the first time the teams have played since 2006, when MTSU defeated Tech 44-0. The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series 36-31-7.
