What’s happening today at the Olympics: Canoe gold and world record; Big day in track; Canada awaits break-dancing

Olympic highlights for Aug. 10

  • Paddling: Sprint Canoeist Katie Vincent set a new world record while taking gold in the women’s canoe single 200-metre finals. She finished the event with a time of 44.12 seconds. Sophia Jensen placed sixth. Canada’s Michelle Russell was unable to make the podium in the women’s kayak single 500-metre final and placed eighth.
  • Diving: Canadians Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray advance to the finals for the men’s 10-metre platform diving event after placing fifth and tenth in the semi-finals. The finals are scheduled for 9 a.m. ET today.
  • Marathon: Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola took gold in the men’s marathon early this morning with an Olympic record of 2:06:26. Canadians Cameron Levins and Rory Linkletter placed 26th and 47th with Levins achieving his season’s best at 2:11:56.
  • In case you missed it: Andre De Grasse and Canada’s men’s team took a stunning gold in the 4×100-metre relay, a marquee event of the track meet at the Paris Olympics.

Here’s what’s happening today, Aug. 10, at the Olympics

  • Golf: The women’s individual stroke play will continue with its fourth and final round Saturday at 3 a.m. ET. As of 8 a.m. ET, Canadian Brooke Henderson is in 12th place while Alena Sharp is in 42nd.
  • Water Polo: Canada fell to Greece in an early morning women’s water polo match with a score of 19-10. They place eighth in the tournament overall.
  • Breaking: Canadian break-dancer Phil Wizard is poised for the podium as the sport will crown its first Olympic champions after tomorrow’s competition, which begins at 10 a.m. ET. He will look to join the go e set for the 4×400-metre relay finals at 3:14 p.m. ET.
  • Basketball: Team USA is once again in a gold-medal match, this time against host country France in men’s basketball at 3:30 p.m. ET. Team Canada fell to the host in the quarter-finals with a score of 82-73.

What to watch for tomorrow, Aug. 11, at the Olympics

  • Marathon: The women’s marathon starts at 2 a.m. ET.
  • Basketball: Belgium and Australia will compete for the bronze medal in women’s basketball at 5:30 a.m. ET, while France and Team USA will play for gold at 9:30 a.m. ET.
  • Wrapping up: All things come to an end and the Paris Olympics are no exception. The closing ceremony for the Games begins at 3 p.m. ET where Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is expected to participate in the handover ceremony to signify the 2028 Summer Olympics which will be hosted in L.A..
