Women’s College World Series semifinal predictions, odds for Florida vs. Oklahoma

Who will have a date with Texas in the Women’s College World Series Finals?

The Florida Gators put together an outstanding performance on Monday to beat the Oklahoma Sooners, 9-3, to stave off elimination. Oklahoma and Florida will face off once again on Tuesday in a win-or-go-home semifinal game.

Florida’s victory on Monday ended a 20-game tournament win streak that Oklahoma had been riding since the start of their SEC tournament-winning run. They also became the first team in three years to beat the Sooners in the WCWS.

The Gators did it behind their offense. The team hopped out to a 4-0 lead by the end of the third inning thanks, in part, to back-to-back home runs from outfielder Kendra Falby and shortstop Skylar Wallace with two outs in the second inning.

Falby’s home run was of the inside-the-park variety and broke her out of an 0-for-18 slump at the plate.

On Tuesday, the Sooners – the juggernauts of college softball – will have to play one more against Florida. A win keeps their dreams of a fourth straight title alive. A loss sends them home and the Gators to the WCWS finals against Texas.

Women’s College World Series: Florida vs. Oklahoma predictions

The Oklahoman: Oklahoma 6, Florida 2

Justin Martinez writes: “The Sooners should be able to bounce back on Tuesday, especially with Kelly Maxwell expected to start. The graduate pitcher has only allowed one run in 10 2/3 pitched during the WCWS run, and she has racked up 15 strikeouts along the way.”

The Gainesville Sun: Oklahoma 4, Florida 3

Noah Ram writes: “Oklahoma is a giant of college softball for a reason. (Sooners ace Kelly) Maxwell will likely pitch better than anyone Florida saw Monday, and while the Gator offense is capable of scoring on anyone, it may be harder to come by vs Maxwell. As for (Florida pitcher Keagan) Rothrock, she was phenomenal as per usual, but she did throw over 120 pitches Monday, and she’s never thrown complete games on three straight days.”

Heartland College Sports: Oklahoma 6, Florida 2

Bryan Clinton writes: “There are so many ways that this game could go, but going off of what I’ve seen from both teams to this point, I have a feeling we’ll see OU put up enough run support to keep whoever is in the circle from being in any real danger. I don’t see a blowout by any means, but it does feel like a situation where Oklahoma should win fairly comfortably.”
